What’s interesting about this scene is that, at first when Cary, following Elliot’s suggestion, asked Beverly to dance, he resisted, and then his brother persuaded him by simply saying “Go on, Bev, dance with the girl.”
It was Elliot’s idea to ask Beverly to dance, and what Beverly accepted was his brother’s invitation, not hers. When Elliot joined them, it was like the two brothers were dancing with each other through the girl.
